This is a collaboration between Ethiopia Skate and The Hunt Foundation. This innovative program seeks to blend the excitement of skateboarding with the academic support and mentorship provided by professional and student volunteers. By offering tutoring and skateboarding lessons to children in Addis Ababa, Beyond the Board aims to foster a holistic environment where learning and physical activity go hand in hand.

Building Futures: Education and Empowerment

Beyond the Board will be conducted in partnership with underfunded public schools in Addis Ababa. By collaborating with local educational institutions and involving regular teachers, the program aims to identify and support students who are struggling academically. These students will be paired with tutors who will provide both academic assistance and skateboarding lessons, ensuring a well-rounded approach to their development.

In addition, this program supports families to become economically self-sufficient through initiatives that provide parents of most vulnerable children opportunities to gain income generating skills. Empowering the family unit to be financially stable will elevate the burden often placed on young children to generate income by doing odd-jobs that obstruct their studies. This program will cover all expenses related to a parents’ training and provide basic necessities such as food and hygiene products for up to six months during caregivers’ training.
